What is Brain and Intelligence Development?
Brain development in children begins in the mother's womb during pregnancy and continues until the age of 20. Brain and intelligence development is shaped by the genetic characteristics inherited from the mother and father, as well as the environmental factors that children encounter during pregnancy and later in their lives. Among these environmental factors, the presence of long-term health problems, irregular sleep, long screen time, closed family structure and irregular nutrition negatively affect brain and intelligence development.
It has been known for thousands of years that regular and healthy nutrition increases brain functions and enhances perception. However, in recent years, nutritional content consisting especially of long shelf-life, ready-made foods, insufficient consumption of homemade organic products, and adoption of a carbohydrate-based nutrition model poor in vegetables and protein negatively affects brain performance.
From birth until the 6th month of our children, breast milk, which is a miraculous nutrition model, meets all the needs of our babies. However, after the 6th month, supplementary foods are introduced in addition to breast milk. Wrong food choices made in the 6th month and subsequent periods can disrupt the general health conditions of our children along with their brain functions.
Especially fish, eggs, buckwheat, corn and rice flour, vegetables, sufficient fruits and red meat with high protein content should be consumed in a balanced manner according to the needs of our children. Fast food products, long shelf-life ready-made foods and a nutrition model consisting mostly of carbohydrates disrupt our general health as well as our brain performance.
The nutritional mistakes we make as parents can cause permanent problems in the future lives of our children. While trying to do the best for our children, we should not compromise on their most natural right, which is healthy nutrition.
